1979 CBX Custom Trike-One of a Kind Show Winner
This is a 79 CBX that I built for myself after I lost my left leg a few years ago.
I had what is known as a ?high thigh? amputation so I have an artificial knee and ankle. Since I was not ready to give up riding I decided to take a CBX and modify it and add a Voyager trike kit for myself. Since Voyager doesn?t offer a trike kit for the CBX I had to buy one ($4k) and modify it to fit the CBX. You?ll be able to see from the pictures how I did it. It?s attached to the engine guard mounting points, the front engine bolt, and the center stand rod and to each side of the rear axle. It?s properly aligned and the bike tracks straight. It?s easy handling particularly in town and great because it can never tip over!
The bike has long list of chrome parts that I listed after the write up. It has a custom 6 into 2 exhaust system I designed to clear the trike kit. Sounds awesome. The bike is equipped with a Pingel Electric Shifter ($600 + my time to install it) so I can shift from the handlebar. It can still be shifted manually with you foot if you?re able. It has a special aluminum swing arm and will handle up to a 150 rear tire. (No wider than that!). A normal CBX can only handle a 130 rear at most because the wheel is too narrow. I had my wheel modified at Kosman in California ($500) so it?s wider than stock (5?).
The trike kit uses 155R 13 tires and is wearing new Dayton tires. The tire on the back of the CBX is a new 130/80-18.
Here are the rest of the goodies:
? Stainless steel brake lines front and rear. Drilled Front rotors.
? Kenda 100/90-19 Front Tire in good condition.
? Aftermarket rectangular rear view mirrors.
? 9 Row Oil Cooler. Much larger than stock. Keeps motor running cool!
? Metal Braided Spark Plug Wires. Stock Coils.
? Progressive Brand Adjustable Rear Shocks and springs.
? Corbin Gunfighter and Lady seat with red piping and backrest.
? The Voyager Trike kit is a quick release set up with a trailer hitch. The extra shock you see in the back by the hitch is for a trailer in case you?re pulling one.
? The CBX rear cowl is a 1980 version with storage compartment.
? Mini Turn Signals are mounted front and rear.
? Hondaline Engine Guards with folding highway pegs.
? Custom Paint Work. In case you didn?t notice there is a Honda emblem on the left side of the fuel tank. Couldn?t find one for the right!
Now a listing of the chrome parts:
? Handlebars (Standard Height not Sport Kit)
? Choke, Brake and clutch levers.
? Instrument Holder.
? Chrome Headlight Bracket.
? Fork Triple Trees and Fork Brace.
? Front and Rear Brake Calipers.
? Oil Cooler Holders.
? Front and Rear Engine Hangers.
? Valve Cover and Outer Carb Covers.
? Crankshaft and Camshaft Covers.
? Clutch, Pulsar Cover and Oil Line Cover.
? Oil Pump and Countershaft Sprocket cover.
? Footpeg brackets.
? Rear Brake Lever and Rear Master Cylinder.
? Chain Guard.
? Trike Wheels
This is very much a one of kind machine and is ready to give riding pleasure back to someone who can?t ride a two wheeler any longer. You?ll love the way it runs, sounds and looks. Believe me it draws a crowd wherever we go.
Send me your email address and I?ll sen all 40 of the pix I have for this great machine!
